DOS SANTOS CITY OF MIRRORS

Chicago-based band Dos Santos haven’t released an album since 2018’s LOGOS. Today the band has announced its new record, City of Mirrors, set for release on October 15th via Chicago label International Anthem. Following on from the release of album track 'A Shot in the Dark', Dos Santos drop the title track 'City of Mirrors', alongside a video. The song sees surf-rock guitar mingle with the sway of a Latin beat. The vocals are sung in Spanish, the melody leaning into hooky melodies, occasionally ornamented with grandiose harmony. Instrumentally, the feel of the song is upbeat, but the vocals add a sombre touch. “‘City of Mirrors’ is a love song to Puerto Rico amid the aftershocks of disasters,” says Chavez. “Inspired by Gabriel García Marquez’s 100 Years of Solitude, Puerto Rico to us is like Macondo—the city of mirrors, a central character in that novel—a place of beauty and trauma, of struggle and triumph. Indeed, the Caribbean as a whole is ground zero for this dichotomy, borne of the legacy of colonialism in the ‘new world,’ much as Macondo. This song is a tribute to this place and its enduring story.”.
